My dear Max Lockwood,

I am writing to you on a personal, and selfish matter but feel sure you will excuse the liberty I am taking when I have explained the position of affairs. First of all let me remind you that I am the son of Max Ben Chapman of York, in whose behalf you so kindly interested yourself last August to secure my appointment as Assessor of Rates to the Government of Hong Kong.
